Pittsburgh named one of the top cities to make friends

Realtor.com® recently named Pittsburgh the fourth best city to make friends.

Using data like the number of bars, bookstores and gyms, church congregations per 100,000 adults, percentage of single adults, service clubs per 100,000 adults, number of libraries, number of individuals participating in Meetup groups and the percentage of adults involved in volunteer work, the Steel City came in just behind Austin, Milwaukee and San Francisco.

With a median home price of $160,000, and an adult population of nearly 2 million, Pittsburgh is deemed both affordable, as well as a great place to meet people. Thanks to the third-highest concentration of bars, the fourth-highest percentage of church congregations, the second-highest number of libraries and the highest percentage of service clubs, as well as nearly 70 colleges and universities, Pittsburgh comes out near the top of realtor.com’s® rankings.

“Pittsburgh has been growing by leaps and bounds over the last few years. We are constantly in the top in many categories, including foodie town, destination for seniors to retire and named the Most Livable City in America a few times,” said Pittsburgh area Realtor® Brian Teyssier.

In the area, Teyssier personally reported joining marathon training groups, CrossFit gyms, cars and coffee car clubs and kayak clubs to meet people. He added that there are many activity groups there, as well as many happenings throughout the city offering adults the opportunities to make friends, such as concerts at Stage AE, activities at Point State Park and Just Ducky tours.

“People just generally seem to be happy or maybe it’s the cologne I’m wearing when I speak to them,” Teyssier joked. “I don’t know why people are actually friendly. Maybe it’s because our median home price is $160,000.”
