Fortune recently ranked the top 50 towns for families and Bensalem in Bucks County made the list.
Using factors like health care, education and resources for seniors, Bensalem scored well enough to land in 26th place. The median sale price for a single-family residence as of 2022 was $358,090 in the community, still below the national average, but above the Pennsylvania average. Additionally, most residents earn favorable wages. The median household income is above the national median, at $77,586, compared to the national median income of $70,784 and also above the Pennsylvania median income of $67,587.
Bensalem offers a wide variety of activities for families, including multiple parks, a fall festival, summer camps, a community garden and a summer concert series. Around 62,000 people call Bensalem home, with the U.S. Census determining the birth rate in Bensalem to be about 20% higher than Bucks County and about 10% higher than the rate in Pennsylvania.
“Bensalem is centrally located to Philadelphia and major highways. It’s basically suburban living with a city lifestyle,” said Michelle Gromilovitz, the vice president of the Bucks County Association of Realtors®. “Everyone gets along, it’s a very friendly community. Everyone knows everyone and helps everyone. It’s really the best of both worlds, it’s city meets suburban. There are so many great parks and a great library. The Parx Casino has been putting a lot of money into the area. They are adding a big hotel, which will bring in a lot of jobs and money into the economy,” she said. “It’s very community-orientated.”
“You can find a little bit of everything in Bensalem,” said Gromilovitz. “It’s a great and affordable area. Every budget type can find something from apartments to large single-family homes.”
“It’s a little town that really hasn’t been discovered yet, but it’s about to be,” she added.
