Most Commonly Used Words in Real Estate Listings
While a newly renovated kitchen will probably still make buyers swoon, what sellers’ agents are really promoting is space.
After spending the bulk of 2020 and part of 2021 at home, people have really grown to value having their own areas in their home. According to Point2 Homes, who analyzed more than 640,000 real estate listings across the U.S., large, great, full and spacious were some of the most-used words to describe homes to would-be buyers. In the past, real estate ads would more commonly tout features like granite countertops, hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances, especially in 2019. While these features still made the most-used words list, they dropped in popularity, as adjectives to describe roominess grew.
Features that agents advertised also jumped to more roomy features. Garage, walk-in closet, full bath and open floor plan were the most commonly used terms for houses. For condos, parking and garage were the top amenities, followed by hardwood floors and a walk-in closet.
Even when divided by price, “full bath” was the most commonly used term, whether it was a mobile home under $100,000 or a luxury home. However, when broken down, terms do change. For homes under $100,000 some of the most commonly used keywords included hardwood floors, parking, washer/dryer and fenced yard. For homes priced $100,000 to $250,000, terms like hardwood floors, open floor plan and walk-in closet were most used. For pricier homes, features like hardwood floors, walk-in closets, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances were the most likely to be used.
