How did you get started in real estate?
My former broker, Art Bowen, would come into the restaurant where I worked–a family-owned business of 20 years. Art continually asked if I would ever consider being a real estate agent. When one of my friends decided to join the business, she encouraged me to get my license–and here we are today.
What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to keeping up with education. I also try to make a connection with and maintain contact with clients—repeat and referral! Coming to PAR meetings and staying connected with colleagues across the state also helps my business.
What’s your biggest challenge about being a Realtor®?
The biggest challenge I find in being a Realtor® is maintaining a good work-life balance. I try to be the best I can, which tends to make me overdo it maintaining that work-life balance between my lives is very challenging. (Let’s face it, we all know how to work too much, and presume we have time for the rest later.)
What advice would you give yourself if you could go back to the start of your career?
The best advice I would give myself, if I were to go back to the beginning, is to establish and maintain a better work-life balance. I need to find the time for myself and my family, even if that means scheduling it. As my career proceeds, I am back-to-basics on this one.
Why do you love being a Realtor®?
I love working with people, I love solving problems and I love how it ties me to the community, while my efforts can help better the community. I enjoy every aspect of being a Realtor, and the fact that my days are so diverse in “work activities” make it fascinating and exciting—I love the adventure!
What’s your favorite work story?
My favorite work stories are the ones where I become a part of my clients’ lives. While working with them and helping them through the biggest transaction their lives, I almost become part of the family.
What are you most proud of in your career?
I’ve had many proud moments in my career. I was selected Realtor® of the Year in our association. I was selected as “Best of the Valley” in a local media survey in our local area for two consecutive years. To me, that brings a great deal of pride because one of the things that I strive to do is to better our community. That’s proof that I’m making an impact on the community and the people I serve.
What’s a fun fact about yourself?
A fun fact about me is that I am a grandmother. I’m a proud Meme to Gabriel and we spend a lot of time together. I think he’s probably my very best friend. Gabriel is three and a half. Being a Realtor® and focusing on my work-life balance allows me the time to spend with him. I also enjoy training him when he comes on my appointments. He’s always ready to show a house or go to an appointment. (At just a few months old, Gabe was along on a showing and writing an offer for the same buyer. When I met with the buyer for inspection reply, she asked if Gabe was available to come to the office because he was her good “mojo” of the transaction.)
What is your favorite PAR memory?
I love the installations of the new officers, it’s actually one of my favorite memories each year.
What do you do when you’re not selling real estate?
I enjoy distance running, so I try to get as much of that in as possible. I love to spend time with my family, which is a big one and we all live close together so it’s easy to spend time together. I enjoy watching my husband’s bands play live. And, of course, that sweet little boy Gabe—work or play.
