Boo! Do you have buyers seeking a haunted house?
“How many bedrooms are you looking for? Do you want a large yard? What about a garage?”
These are questions you probably ask clients looking for a home while preparing to start their search. But have you ever asked them how they feel about ghostly roommates? Perhaps that would have an impact on their home search.
A recent realtor.com® survey found that 43% of people have either definitely lived in a haunted home or at least think they have. Of the 23% of respondents who said they know they lived in a haunted house, close to 60% said they had no idea it may be haunted when they moved. But 37% reported knowing it was haunted and moving in anyway.
BOOM!
Would strange noises in your house make you think it was haunted? Or perhaps it is just the house settling? Nearly two-thirds of people who think they’ve lived in a haunted house cite odd noises as probable hauntings, while 52% said strange shadows convinced them they had a ghost. Forty-eight percent said they witnessed items moving on their own and 47% said certain rooms had an aura that felt haunted. Is the hair on your arm rising yet? Because 46% of respondents said they felt touched with no one around and 44% said they had hot and cold spots throughout the home.
Are you spooked? Not everyone is, as 21% of respondents said they would be willing to live in a house that was haunted, and another 21% said they would consider it. Fifty-four percent said absolutely not, they wanted all of their roommates to be alive. What if you inherited a home that was haunted? More than half of respondents said they would sell it immediately, while 23% would renovate hoping that would discourage the ghosts from hanging around and 6% said they would tear it down. Just 20% said they would move in.
People are slightly more lenient about living near a ghost. Forty-three percent said they would live next door to a haunted house, but 31% said absolutely not. They want their neighborhood to be ghost-free.
