Scranton Has 5th Lowest Cost of Living
Last month, Realtor.com named Scranton the fifth city with the lowest cost of living.
Many may recognize Scranton as the home of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Co. from the television sitcom “The Office,” but the city’s affordability is anything but fictional. Realtor.com cited that for $100 worth of necessities, residents pay only $91.90.
“The Scranton area is a great place to live because the cost of living is significantly below the national average, particularly in housing, making it super affordable to buy a home here,” said Greater Scranton Board of Realtors® President Dan Taylor.
“Currently, the median sales price of a single-family home on the Greater Scranton Multiple Listing Service sits at $249,950, 40% less than the National Association of Realtors® national median price of $422,100 in Q2 of 2024!” Taylor added. “That, in conjunction with relatively low property taxes and utility costs, makes Scranton and the surrounding communities a no-brainer for those looking to get a beautiful property in a picturesque community for an incredible price.”
