When it comes to the best state to live in, Pennsylvania ranks No. 7 overall and No. 3 in quality of life, according to an analysis by WalletHub.
To find the most livable states, WalletHub compared each state based on 51 factors in five categories: affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life and safety.
At lucky number seven, Pennsylvania scored a total of 58.32 points, following only:
- Massachusetts: 60.52
- Florida: 59.82
- New Jersey: 59.65
- Utah: 59.58
- New Hampshire: 59.13
- Idaho: 58.76
In each category analyzed, the Keystone State ranked:
- 3rd in quality of life
- 9th in safety
- 19th in education and health
- 29th in affordability
- 41st in economy
Notably, WalletHub found that Pennsylvanians enjoy a very high quality of life compared to other states, measured by bicycle friendliness, average commute time, access to public transportation, traffic congestion, fitness centers per capita, weather and more.
As for other factors considered, Pennsylvania ranked:
- 6th in restaurants per capita
- 11th in percent of insured population
- 15th in homeownership rate
- 17th in average weekly work hours
- 20th in housing costs
- 24th in percent of population in poverty
