Single-Family and Multi-Family Permits Up YoY in Pa.
Single-family home permits were up 25.3% nationwide from April 2023 to April 2024, with only two states seeing declines, according to the National Association of Home Builders.
All four U.S. regions saw varying levels of increased single-family permits, with the West seeing the most and the Northeast seeing the fewest:
- West: 36.4%
- Midwest: 27.2%
- South: 22.7%
- Northeast: 12.6%
From April 2023 to April 2024, Pennsylvania specifically saw a 23.3% increase in single-family permits.
Texas saw the most significant increase (29.4%), while Alaska and Rhode Island were the only two states with declines (-17.3% and -7.7%, respectively).
While Pennsylvania’s single-family permits didn’t experience as much growth as the nationwide average, the commonwealth was one of the 15 states that recorded growth in multi-family permits.
In the same period, the United States overall saw a -20.1% decline in multi-family home permits. The Northeast was the only region where multi-family permits surged.
- Northeast: 51.2%
- Midwest: -11.6%
- South: -27.9%
- West: -36.4%
Pennsylvania saw a 10.2% increase in multi-family permits. The New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA, metro area saw the biggest increase, with an 85% YTD change.
