7 Tips for Your Realtor® Website

Whether you’re looking to start your Realtor® website or you’re looking for ways to improve it, here are seven tips to consider to help drive business, from Mile6, a Philadelphia-based digital product agency.

1. Establish Your Personal Brand

“The best approach is to make the branding of a website a reflection of you as a Realtor®,” the Mile6 team advises. “The images should reflect the types of properties you deal in. The language you use on the site should sound like it’s in your personal voice and tone. This is not a place to be super aspirational. Your clients should be able to anticipate what their experience working with you will be when they visit your website.

“Make sure the pictures of yourself on the website are up to date and reflect your personality,” they add.

2. Don’t Forget “The Why”

“The best websites in all industries include what we call ‘The Why,’” Mile6 says. “Why are you a Realtor®? What motivates you about the industry? Be honest.”

“Buyers looking to make this kind of investment are looking for someone they can trust, and they’re on high alert for anything that feels disingenuous. Do you like meeting new people? Do you like closing big deals? Do you just love to drive for four hours a day?”

3. Include Your “About”

“You should also consider adding a robust ‘About’ section,” Mile6 adds. “So many people don’t want to talk about themselves on their websites and that’s a mistake. People visiting your website looking for a potential Realtor® are looking to establish a connection. They want to feel like they understand who you are and that you understand them.”

In your About section, consider adding some of your Realtor® strengths, proudest accomplishments and/or values and goals. Write in your own voice and don’t be afraid to include a few personal details, like hobbies and interests, to help foster connections with potential clients.

4. Think About User Friendliness

“Our goal when we build sites is to identify who the users are and how they would prefer to use the website,” Mile6 notes. “Do your research. Who do you currently work with and what do you think they would want to do on your website? Once you know this, make sure you’re outlining a clear path for them to follow to accomplish their goal.”

“For instance, we can assume most users would like to look at your current listings. Let’s make sure that there is an impactful call to action at the top of the homepage that anyone can easily find, click on and view your listings.”

5. Allow Visual Design to Represent Your Business

“Visual design also depends on who you are as a Realtor®,” says Mile6. “A Realtor® who deals mostly in high-end commercial real estate is going to have a much different visual style on their site than, say, someone who deals in multi-unit rental properties, and that’s because their users are looking for different things.”

“All websites should be legible, easy to navigate and intuitive to operate, but there’s no ‘correct’ look for a website within an industry as broad as real estate. There is a ‘correct’ look if you see your website as an extension of your individual business.”

6. Choose Your Words Carefully

“In general, we outline the primary paths for each website user on the homepage within the first two or three screen heights, meaning by the time a user has scrolled three times, they should have already found the next page they should be heading to and leaving the homepage,” Mile6 notes.

“Once users are deeper into the site, make sure you’re breaking up content in a way that’s easy to read and digestible. Keep in mind that potential clients come to your site to do something, and that thing is probably not to read 5,000 words.”

7. Look at Inspiration

“Focus on the user,” they conclude. “One great way to do this is to look at other successful people in your part of the industry. We do this as an exercise on all of our new builds. It really helps to understand what others have found successful and to incorporate those features into your site.”
