4 Things Homebuyers Are Most Willing to Compromise
Homebuyers don’t always get exactly what they want. Here are the top four things they’re willing to compromise on to afford a home, according to the National Association of Home Builders.
1. Smaller Lot
For nearly 4 in 10 buyers, owning a home is more important than owning land. A significant 39% said they’d be willing to give up land in exchange for owning a home.
2. Fewer Exterior Amenities
While a deck or a patio can be a nice feature, 36% of buyers said they’d accept fewer exterior amenities to afford a home. These items can be added in the future.
3. Farther from Urban Core
For many buyers, living near restaurants, entertainment, shopping, nightlife and more is a must. For 36% of buyers, this is less important than owning their own home, and they’d be willing to move farther from urban life.
4. Smaller House
Thirty-five percent of homebuyers are willing to compromise for a smaller house to stay within their budgets. However, there are some areas they believe should shrink more than others. When asked which areas they’d be willing to lose space in, buyers said:
- Home Office (53%)
- Dining Room (52%)
- Family Room (39%)
- Living Room (35%)
- Bedrooms (31%)
- Garage (26%)
- Bathrooms (26%)
- Closets (22%)
- Kitchen (21%)
