June Is Officially Homeownership Month
June marks Homeownership Month.
While Realtors® advocate for homeownership throughout the year, NAR recognizes this month as the time when Realtors® promote the benefits of homeownership and recommit to creating opportunities for future homeowners.
President Joseph Biden issued a proclamation for the month, noting that the administration is implementing the Housing Supply Action Plan with a goal of addressing and eliminating the root causes of the affordable housing shortfall by 2027.
Additionally, Biden said he strives to continue the American dream of homeownership and attainable and affordable housing.
“I want everyone in this country who desires to own a home of their own to have access to the resources and tools they need. This National Homeownership Month, we will reflect on the importance of homeownership as a tool for wealth-building and stability for American families,” said U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia L. Fudge.
Earlier this month, more than 200 Pennsylvania Realtors® met with legislators and their staff at the state Capitol to talk about the importance of homeownership and the challenges the industry is facing, including limited inventory, antiqued zoning laws and the high cost of construction. Many would-be homebuyers are struggling to find housing that’s affordable and attainable, with many barriers delaying their American dream of homeownership.
Resolutions officially designating the month as Homeownership Month in Pennsylvania have been introduced in both the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate. Both resolutions recognize real state’s critical role in community-building and in Pennsylvania’s economy.
House Resolution 139, sponsored by Realtor®-champion Rep. Tina Davis (D) from Bucks County, was unanimously approved by the House of Representatives Housing and Community Development Committee last week. It now awaits consideration by the full House of Representatives.
Realtor® and Sen. Greg Rothman (R) from Cumberland County sponsored Senate Resolution 129, which has been introduced and now awaits consideration in the Senate Rules and Executive Nominations Committee.
While June may be the month officially recognized for homeownership, Realtors® know the importance of spending all 12 months continuing to fight for private property rights.
