Poconos Named One of the Best Places to Buy a Winter Vacation Home

For your buyers looking to purchase a second home for winter trips, the Poconos is one of the best places to buy, a new report stated.

Whether it’s just for themselves or to use as a short-term rental, Vacasa named the Poconos third on the list of best places to buy a winter vacation home. With a media sales price of $274,500, it is more affordable than nearly every other town on the list and the annual gross revenue nets owners $37,700 on average.

“We have year-round activities, like boating, fishing, golfing, skiing and snow tubing,” said Yarrow Wilkins, president of The Pocono Mountains Association of Realtors®. “We cover all four seasons.”

Wilkins added that over the last decade, the area has had a “huge” amount of growth in the arts, including musicians and concerts, farmers markets, outdoor wineries. “It’s been a big influx and has given people much more to do from a cultural perspective,” she added.

The area is also reasonably close to both Philadelphia and New York City and attracts people from all over. “Our location is never going to change, it’s a super easy second home community,” she added.

Wilkins said the area has definitely seen an uptick in activity as more people are able to work remotely and thus spend more time at their winter homes. “Would you rather look out of the window of your home office and see trees, deer and nature or just another building in the city? People seem to enjoy working from here. It also has always been significantly less expensive here, especially up and down the East Coast.”

With the area being relatively affordable compared to other winter vacation areas, Wilkins said the market is “absolutely crazy.” So, for those looking for a more affordable home in a snow town, head to the Poconos, but be prepared to move quickly.
